3-year-old boy in critical condition after being struck by vehicle in Lynn

A 3-year-old boy was in critical condition Wednesday night after being struck by a vehicle in Lynn, officials said.

Officials believe the boy was walking with his older brother near the intersection of Western Avenue and Franklin Street at about 1 p.m. on Wednesday, according to Lynn Fire Chief Steve Archer.

Authorities believe the boy ran out into the road at some point and was struck by a vehicle, Archer said.

The boy was taken by ambulance to Massachusetts General Hospital, the chief said.

He has a broken leg and was in the operating room as of 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, said police Lieutenant Dave Brown. Authorities are not aware of any further internal injuries at this time, Brown said.
