June 25: The body of a young girl in a trash bag is found on the shore of Deer Island. She was wrapped in a zebra-striped fleece blanket and later became known as “Baby Doe.”
July 26: About 100 people gather on Deer Island to memorialize the young girl.
July 29: Memorial Mass for Baby Doe held at the Paulist Center on Park Street in Boston. More than 70 people attend, including Governor Charlie Baker.
July 2: Authorities release a composite sketch of Baby Doe, saying the girl is believed to have been 4 years old.
Aug 8: Results of forensics tests and a pollen analysis show that the little girl lived locally.
Aug 21: In two months, police investigate 210 leads spanning 36 states and several countries in their quest to identify Baby Doe.

Sept. 17: Search warrant executed in Dorchester apartment building on Maxwell Street, according to neighbors.
Sept. 18: After chasing down hundreds of leads, officials announce that they have charged Michael McCarthy, 35, with murdering 2 ½-year-old Baby Doe, identified as Bella Bond. Authorities also charged Bella’s mother, Rachelle Bond, 40, with being an accessory after the fact.
