2 injured after car crashes into Dunkin’ Donuts in Canton
A woman’s car crashed into a Dunkin’ Donuts building Sunday afternoon in Canton after she mistook the gas pedal for the brakes, officials said.
The woman — a Canton resident in her 40s — suffered minor injuries, and a male clerk suffered a head injury that is not considered life-threatening, according to Canton Police Lieutenant Patricia Sherrill. Both were taken to local hospitals.
The crash occurred around 3 p.m. at the corner of Church and Washington streets in the center of town, Sherrill said.
A customer and another employee were also in the store at the time, but they were not injured.
“We’re really lucky there were no pedestrians on the sidewalk and no other cars in the parking lot,” Sherrill said.
The woman was driving a Honda Crosstour, which caused “a lot of structural damage” to the building, Sherrill said.
By late afternoon, crews were trying to shore up the structure in order to remove the vehicle from the building.
While a preliminary investigation showed that the driver mistakenly hit the gas pedal instead of the brakes, Sherrill said it is too soon to decide whether the incident will result in charges or citations.
