Woman’s body found in Chelmsford woods

The body of a woman in her 60s was found in a wooded area in Chelmsford on Monday afternoon, police said.

In a statement, Chelmsford police said the deceased woman was believed to be a 67-year-old Lowell resident who went missing last month, “triggering a massive search by multiple law enforcement agencies. Lowell Police were called to the scene today to aid in the identification.”

Authorities said there were no obvious signs of foul play. Police did not release any information on a possible cause of death.

The woman was discovered in a wooded area off Technology Drive between a restaurant and an Environmental Protection Agency facility, the statement said.

Lowell police had said in a posting on their official department Facebook page on Oct. 27 that Elga Crespo, 67, wandered off from her home near the Chelmsford line and was missing.

The posting described her as mentally challenged with the mind of an 8-year-old. Lowell police also said she was diabetic and taking several medications.
