Cape college cancels morning classes after bomb threat

A bomb threat was found written on a wall Sunday at Cape Cod Community College in Barnstable, leading officials to call off classes Monday morning as state and local police search the school.

Barnstable police notified State Police of the threat Sunday night, State Police spokesman Dave Procopio said, and because the school was empty investigators decided to wait until daylight to search it.

The search will involve the State Police bomb squad, State Police K-9, Troop D personnel, Barnstable police, and Cape Cod Community College police.

“Once we complete the search we will notify the school if [and when] it is OK to open to the public,” Procopio said in an e-mail. He did not know when the school would reopen, but said it could happen Monday.

“If it is a hoax I would doubt classes would have to be canceled all day,” Procopio said.

Officials at the community college said they had no immediate comment.
