A fire in a vacant state-owned building in Brighton early Tuesday caused an estimated $250,000 in damage to the structure, according to the Boston Fire Department.

The Department of Conservation and Recreation building owns the building at 525 Western Avenue near Soldiers Field Road, the department said. The fire was reported around 3 a.m. and required a two-alarm response to quell, the department said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

No injuries were reported.
