A 74-year-old Wrentham man who was trapped beneath a tree was rescued with the help of a Trappist nun who called police on Saturday to report a man was yelling for help in the woods.
Police received a call at about 4 p.m. from a nun at Mount Saint Mary's Abbey, which is home to an order of Roman Catholic nuns best known for making Trappistine Quality Candy.
Wrentham police and fire officials responded to the area of the abbey on Arnold Street. The nun was not identified.
The man, identified as Douglas Goldman, was located about 200 yards into the woods near his home on West Street, officials said.
Goldman was trying to cut down a 10-inch diameter tree with a chainsaw when it fell on his leg, officials said.
Police and fire removed the tree from Goldman's leg. He was transported to Boston Medical Center for a lower leg injury and hypothermia, according to the Wrentham Fire Department.
No information was available about his condition Saturday night.
