Cambridge police officer on leave after hit-and-run incident
A Cambridge officer has been placed on paid administrative leave after police believe he was involved in a hit-and-run accident with a bicycle on Sunday in that city, officials said.
The driver of a vehicle fled the scene after a woman was struck while riding a bike at the intersection of Broadway and Portland streets in Cambridge just before 8 p.m., police spokesman Jeremy Warnick said.
The woman, who is in her 30s, was brought to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, he said.
“A witness was able to identify the license plate from the vehicle involved in the crash,” Warnick said, which led police to investigate the officer. The police officer, who was not named, was off-duty at the time.
No charges have been filed, but the investigation is ongoing, Warnick said.
