Nina Tassler, the former head of CBS Entertainment, will speak at Boston University’s commencement, the school said Monday.
President Robert Brown made the announcement at a breakfast for the Class of 2016. Commencement is set for May 15 at Nickerson Field.
Tassler, who graduated from BU’s College of Fine Arts in 1979, started out at CBS in 1997 overseeing drama productions and became chairman in 2014, according to the university. During her tenure, CBS was the number one for 12 of the past 13 years, BU said.
Tassler has also been inducted to the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame and received the Lucy Award from Women In Film.
Beyond CBS, Tassler serves on several boards and committees, is a member of the institute on gender and media ran by her former BU roommate, actress Geena Davis, and has compiled the book “What I Told My Daughter: Lessons from Leaders on Raising the Next Generation of Empowered Women.”
Tassler will also be awarded an honorary degree. Other recipients will be: US Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz; and Travis Roy, who started the Travis Roy Foundation and is a motivational speaker.
