Those Sav-Mor Liquors folks are at it again. The local liquor store took a playful potshot at a neighboring business this week.

Sav-Mor, located along Somerville’s McGrath Highway, aimed an arch comment on its billboard at the Golden Arches, the nearby McDonald’s.

The McDonald’s is advertising “2 Egg Muffin [for $5],” its outdoor sign says.

Upping the ante, Sav-Mor is offering “3 Egg Muffin [for] $4.”

“Your move, McDonald’s,” Sav-Mor’s sign says.

Of course, Sav-Mor’s offer isn’t much of an offer at all — the store doesn’t even cook up breakfast.

“Offer not valid in Mass,” Sav-Mor’s sign points out, just to clarify the joke.

The liquor store has for years cooked up witticisms to attract customer attention, posting slogans and sayings on the board.

The humorous messages have become a staple at both Sav-Mor’s Medford and Somerville locations.

Last year, the owners gave customers themselves a chance to show off their funny side. The company hosted a contest soliciting the best sayings to appear on the board. The winner was Kristin A., of Somerville, who suggested the sign read, “This Is Th Winning Swpstaks Ntry.”

Her message stayed up for more than a month.
