The National Weather Service is predicting about 2 inches of rain for much of Massachusetts Friday, with constant showers starting Thursday night and continuing throughout Friday.

The hot weather and humidity Thursday will give way to a Friday washout, according to the National Weather Service.

"One more hot day today with some increase in humidity," the National Weather Service wrote on Twitter. "Forecast data is trending toward a soaking rain for Friday."

The weather service issued a flash flood watch that will take effect late Thursday night and continue through Friday evening in much of southeastern Massachusetts, including Plymouth County, Bristol County, and Cape Cod.

"Rain may be heavy at times south of the Mass Pike, where rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches are possible [in] locations near the south coast," forecasters wrote in an advisory. "Cape Cod and the islands are most likely to receive the highest rainfall totals."

The constant showers will last from Thursday night through Friday afternoon, bringing an average of 2 or more inches to most areas with the potential for heavy downpours, forecasters said.

Thursday night will see the mercury drop down to the lower 70s, with a 40 percent chance of rain. Friday's temperatures should reach the upper 70s.
