A man's body was found in the area of First Avenue in Peabody Friday afternoon, police said.

At 2:22 p.m., a city worker reported a man lying in a path in the area of the road, according to Detective Michael Crane from the Peabody Police Department. Further information about the location was not immediately available.

Crane said it was not yet clear if the man was responsive when the worker found him.

The man was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Crane said.

While the incident is under investigation, Crane said police are treating the case as an unintended death. There were no signs of trauma or foul play.

Crane did say there is water close by where the body was found, but authorities are not sure if the man was originally in the water or not.
