Worker seriously injured after falling three stories in Longwood

A worker suffered serious injuries in a fall from scaffolding in the Longwood medical area Tuesday afternoon, fire officials said.

The incident happened near 25 Shattuck St., according to Boston Fire Department spokesman Steve MacDonald. He said the man fell at least three stories.

Julie Joyal, who works nearby, said she heard the man falling. She said he was yelling as he hit scaffolding on the way down.

“I was really distressed,” she said.

Joyal added that the crew at the work site rushed to the aid of the injured man.

“The guys in the hard hats responded really quickly,” she said.

The Shattuck Street address where the incident was reported is listed as part of Harvard Medical School. Officials there referred comment to Boston police, who said they were still gathering information about what happened.

The victim was taken to a hospital, but details of his current condition were not immediately available.

Police blocked pedestrians from many areas around Shattuck Street and the medical school for hours Tuesday afternoon. The road was also closed to traffic.
