Topsfield baby sitter sentenced to prison for kidnapping toddler in 2015

A Topsfield baby sitter pleaded guilty on Friday in Salem Superior Court to breaking into a Hamilton home and kidnapping a 2-year-old girl before abandoning her on the side of a rural road.

Abigail Hanna, 22, was sentenced to five to seven years in state prison, followed by 10 years probation, for the abduction of Lyndon Albers on Nov. 20, 2015. The toddler was found hours later, with a shaved head and burns on her body, by a couple who spotted her as they drove along a road in Rowley.

The girl’s parents told police that Hanna had once worked as a baby sitter for them, but she was fired.

In March, Hanna was indicted by an Essex County grand jury on charges of kidnapping, breaking and entering in the nighttime, assault and battery on a child resulting in bodily injury, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a child under 14.

Hanna’s lawyers entered a not guilty plea on her behalf to the charges in April in Salem Superior Court.

Hanna changed her plea for all charges Friday in Salem Superior Court, according to prosecutors.

Under the terms of her probation, Hanna must stay 100 yards away from the child and her family and is banned from the town of Hamilton. She must also stay 50 yards away from schools and playgrounds, may not have unsupervised contact with children under 16, must obtain mental health treatment, and remain alcohol and marijuana free, according to the statement.

Hanna will also be registered as a sex offender and must wear a GPS device during her first two years of probation, prosecutors said.
