Three-year-old crushed by car in Acushnet

A 3-year-old girl was killed in Acushnet Tuesday morning when she was crushed by a car that rolled onto her as her father made repairs, police said.

The child died at the scene, and her father was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital, Acushnet police said in a statement. The girl’s name was Victoria Varieur, according to Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III’s office.

The father was making repairs to his Ford Excursion just before noon in their Jean Street driveway when the car began rolling, officials said. The car struck and killed the child before it hit a parked car across the street.
