The last time Governor Charlie Baker crossed the state’s northern border to back a candidate on a Saturday in New Hampshire, his endorsee dropped out of the race four days later.

Chris Sununu, seeking the state’s governorship, hopes he fares better than Chris Christie, the New Jersey governor and Baker friend who slotted sixth in February’s presidential primary. Sununu, the GOP gubernatorial nominee, is hoping Baker can help put him over the top.

Baker and Sununu will campaign together at the New England Armwrestling Championships in Nashua, Baker aides said Thursday. A Globe/Suffolk poll released Thursday showed Sununu, scion of a New Hampshire political dynasty, with a lead of 4 percentage points over the Democratic nominee, Executive Councilor Colin Van Ostern.

A Baker spokesman said the governor does not intend to partake in the feats of strength.
