Several swastikas were discovered in the bathrooms of Pierce Middle School in Milton, according to a letter sent to parents by the school principal.
Principal Karen Spaulding sent the letter to parents Thursday to inform them of the incident and offer additional support to any children who might need it.
"This is extremely troubling and highly inconsistent with the inclusive culture that we are committed to creating at the Pierce Middle School," Spaulding wrote.
Spaulding said school officials investigated the incident, found out who was responsible, and followed up using the Code of Conduct in the Pierce Middle School Handbook.
"I and the entire staff are firmly committed to fostering a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment for every member of our community," Spaulding wrote. "To that end, this type of behavior will not be tolerated at the Pierce Middle School."
Spaulding told parents that school officials will soon determine "educational next steps."
Spaulding offered herself and the school's guidance counselors as resources if children wanted to discuss the matter further.
