Car catches fire at Walmart in Gardner

A person was taken to the hospital Friday evening when a vehicle caught fire in the parking lot of a Walmart store in Gardner, according to police.

Emergency officials responded to a report of a fire in the parking Timpany Boulevard shortly before 8 p.m., police said in a release.

The vehicle was “fully engulfed in flames,” by the time responders arrived, according to the statement.

Firefighters put the vehicle fire out and the person in the car was taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester for treatment, according to Lieutenant Craig Osowski.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No details on the age, gender, or condition of the driver were available on Friday night.
