5 dogs die in New Hampshire house fire

Six dogs were trapped in a burning house in Hampton, N.H., on Friday morning and five were killed, officials said.

Firefighters arrived at 4 Huckleberry Lane after a neighbor called to report the fire around 9:15 a.m. The resident was at work when the fire began, Hampton Fire Chief Jameson Ayotte said. As far as Ayotte knew, she was the only person living there.

Firefighters were able to rescue one dog, which was taken to a veterinary clinic.

Recent snow and freezing temperatures complicated efforts to fight the fire. The cause is under investigation, and the extent of the damage is still being determined.
