Firefighters work to extinguish a second-floor fire on Temple Street in Duxbury.

A mother and her baby were able to escape a fire in their Duxbury home Monday afternoon after they were awoken by smoke alarms, officials said.

The two were napping in a second-floor bedroom when the fire broke out around 12:40 p.m., according to Duxbury Fire Captain Rob Reardon. Firefighters knocked down the blaze within 15 minutes of arriving. No one was injured.

The second floor sustained significant damage, Reardon said. The cause remains under investigation.
