The lockdown ended Friday at the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center, where Aaron J. Hernandez apparently committed suicide, but the state Department of Correction would not disclose the results of its weeklong search for contraband.
Inmates at the state’s maximum security prison had been locked in their cells for 24 hours a day except for limited circumstances since Monday as the DOC conducted a prison-wide search.
State officials confirmed that the lockdown had ended but did not immediately provide information on what they might have found.
Hernandez, the former New England Patriots star convicted of first-degree murder, was found in his cell April 19 hanging by his bedsheet. State officials have declared his death a suicide, a conclusion that Hernandez’s family contends was reached too quickly after his death.
