Patrick alums win small business award

Turns out the Deval Patrick diaspora is doing more than just competing to see who can get the next governor elected.

A company owned by two former Patrick aides landed the state Minority-Owned Business of the Year award from the US Small Business Administration (SBA). Archipelago Strategies Group founder Josiane Martinez worked in the governor’s press office and then as executive director of the state’s office for refugees and immigrants.

Minority owner Alec Loftus, another Patrick press office veteran, was a senior adviser in the health and human services secretariat.

Archipelago Strategies, which started with one employee in 2013, “earned the recognition for its success as the region’s leading minority-owned consultancy, specializing in multicultural marketing, advertising, public relations and community engagement,” the SBA said. The agency presented the award on Tuesday.
