Franklin police are searching for missing Duke University student

Franklin police Monday continued the search for 2o-year-old Michael Doherty, a Duke University student who went missing early Sunday morning.

Michael Doherty was last seen around 1:30 a.m Sunday near Phyllis Lane “where he had been attending a gathering with some friends,’’ Franklin police said. Police are interviewing those friends for more information.

Doherty was reported missing by his parents around 1:30 p.m. Sunday, police said.

Police sergeant Brian Johnson said Monday evening that investigators had recovered articles of Doherty’s clothing, but declined to elaborate.

The search will resume at 5:30 Tuesday morning.

Doherty is a rising junior at Duke University, according to The Chronicle, the student-run campus newspaper. Doherty attends the Pratt School of Engineering and is a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, the newspaper reported.


He was last seen wearing a blue Nike T-shirt, black pants and sneakers. He is white, stands about five feet, 10 inches tall, and has brown hair and brown eyes.
