An air quality alert has been issued for most of Massachusetts as a result of temperatures in the 90s with growing humidity.

The alert was issued by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection. It takes effect at 11 a.m. and remains in force until 11 p.m. Monday night.

The warning is currently considered “unhealthy” for “sensitive groups,’’ which includes people with asthma and lung illnesses and older people, according to the DEP.

The air quality concern does not currently extend to the public as a whole, although limits on outside activity are recommended for Monday, according to the DEP.

“The general public is not likely to be affected,’’ according to the DEP.
