12-year-old girl is killed while water-skiing in N.H.

A 12-year-old girl from Colorado was killed Monday while water-skiing in New Hampshire when a boat her father was operating struck her, authorities said.

The horrific episode occurred shortly before 8:30 a.m. on Newfound Lake in Hebron, N.H. in the immediate area of Cilley’s Point, according to State Police.

Zoe Anderson, of Highland Ranch, Colo., had been learning to slalom ski behind a 20-foot Cobalt powerboat that her father, Sherwood P. Anderson, was driving, troopers said in a statement.


“After falling, Mr. Anderson was in the process of returning to Zoe’s location when his attention was momentarily distracted as his hat was blown from his head,” the statement said. “Mr. Anderson quickly placed the boat in neutral as the boat travelled over the top of the Zoe causing serious injuries to her torso. The boat was travelling at a slow speed during these events.”

Zoe Anderson’s mother, Tonya, and her 14-year-old sister were also on board the vessel at the time, according to State Police. The family brought her to shore and CPR was attempted, but Zoe could not be revived.

State Police asked anyone who may have information about the case to contact Sergeant Joshua Dirth at 603-293- 2037or

“Assisting Agencies included the Bridgewater Police Dept., Bridgewater Fire/Rescue, and Bristol Fire Rescue,” the statement said. “This incident remains under investigation.”
