Man arrested after hit-and-run, police chase in Revere

State Police arrested a Boston man Friday evening after a hit-and-run and police chase in Revere, according to spokesman Dave Procopio.

Ricardo J. Lopez, 25, was driving a 2009 Ford Fusion when allegedly struck another vehicle on Squire Road at 5 p.m., and fled the scene at a high rate of speed, Procopio said.

A state trooper observed the vehicle heading southbound on Broadway, where Lopez refused to stop, Procopio said.

With police in pursuit, the vehicle traveled onto Route 16 east, then Route 1A south.

Troopers observed Lopez throw a bag out of the window, which was later recovered and found to contain narcotics, Procopio said.

The vehicle exited and re-entered Route 1A before Lopez voluntarily stopped on an overpass over Route 145.

Lopez will be charged with motor vehicle offenses, including speeding, failure to stop for police, and driving with a suspended license, among others, Procopio said.

He may also face drug charges, “once we confirm that the bag contains narcotics,” Procopio wrote in an e-mail.

The incident is still under investigation.
