State Police arrest armed Taunton man after chase through woods

State Police arrested an armed Taunton man who fled on foot Saturday morning after being pulled over on Route 24 southbound just before exit 19 in Avon.

Police stopped Nicolas H. Davis, 31, who was driving a 2000 Toyota Camry Solara, just before 11 a.m. after observing motor vehicle violations, authorities said in a statement.

When police found a loaded Glock .45 caliber handgun inside the vehicle, Davis ran, the statement said. It said Davis is not licensed to carry a firearm.

Trooper Joshua McKelligan sustained minor injuries while chasing Davis as he ran through the woods, according to the statement.

Additional troopers, along with a K-9 unit and Avon Police, were called in to assist in the chase, authorities said. Police located and arrested Davis behind a residence on Winship Way in Stoughton.

According to the timestamp on the State Police video, Davis was arrested roughly an hour after being pulled over.

Davis is being held on $50,000 bail, pending arraignment in Stoughton District Court on Monday. He is facing charges that include resisting arrest and carrying an unlicensed firearm, police said.
