Police chased down several teenagers in South Boston early Friday, including a 15-year-old boy with a loaded .45-caliber pistol, after responding to a report of people loitering with handguns, Boston police said.

Police were initially called to 22 Gavin Way around 2:12 a.m. Friday, where officers found a group of people matching the description they had received sitting on the steps of the building.

When an officer attempted to pat down one of the suspects, a 15-year-old South Boston boy, he took off running toward Joe Moakley Park, police said.

Officers chased the suspect down and arrested him without incident “after a brief foot pursuit,” police said. Officers also recovered a loaded .45-caliber Springfield Armory handgun that the suspect had discarded.

During that pursuit, the other three suspects had fled but were quickly located by additional responding officers.

One of them, Yusuf Mohamed, 18, of South Boston, was found hiding on the fourth floor of the building at 22 Gavin Way. Officers pat frisked Mohamed and recovered a loaded .45-caliber Colt Combat Commander handgun from the waistband of his pants, then arrested him.

The other two suspects, a 17-year-old South Boston male and Jaudy Tejada DeJesus, 19, of South Boston, were located around 15 minutes later in a second-story stairwell at 451 Msgr. O’Callahan Way and arrested without incident.

The 15-year-old was charged with delinquent, to wit: unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition. Mohamed was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.

The 17-year-old was charged with delinquent, to wit: trespassing, and DeJesus was charged with trespassing.

All four suspects will be arraigned in South Boston District Court.
