Firefighters freed a woman trapped in her car after an accident on Route 3 in Duxbury this morning, officials said.

The 31-year-old South Yarmouth woman, who was driving her husband and 8-month-old daughter north on the highway, spun out into the woods and hit a tree at high speed, according to Duxbury Fire Captain PJ Hussey .

Responders said the husband and baby were already out of the vehicle when help arrived shortly after 10 a.m., but a collapsed roof and an 18-inch intrusion by the tree kept the mother trapped inside. Fire personnel had to saw away surrounding brush and use the Jaws of Life to extract the woman, who was taken to South Shore Hospital with injuries to her arm and ribs. The father and baby were also taken to the hospital for evaluation. All three are expected to recover, according to the fire captain.
