Mattapan man arrested for violent Canton home invasion that left elderly couple hurt

A Mattapan man was arrested Thursday for a violent, armed home invasion that took place in Canton in July, Canton police said.

Eriberto Genao, 22, of Mattapan, was wanted in connection with the home invasion, which took place around 11:05 a.m., on July 18 at a residence on Route 138 in Canton.

“During the home invasion an elderly resident was pistol whipped sustaining serious injuries while a second resident suffered lacerations and subsequently had a heart attack as a result of being violently assaulted,” Canton police said in a statement Thursday. According to a July statement, the two residents were an elderly man and his wife.

Genao was arrested by Canton police, along with Milton police and the Boston police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Unit. The State Police Crime Lab, Drug Enforcement Administration, and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives supported Canton police in the investigation.

Two other men took part in the home invasion, Canton police said in July.

During a brief telephone interview Thursday afternoon, a Canton police spokeswoman declined to say whether Genao was connected to other home invasions in Greater Boston this summer.
