20-year-old arrested in stabbing death of 47-year-old man in New Bedford

State troopers arrested a 20-year-old suspect in the brutal stabbing death of 47-year-old Angel Camacho, who was killed Wednesday in New Bedford, officials said Thursday.

David J. Antonetty was nabbed without incident in Springfield on a murder charge, according to Bristol District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III’s office. He’ll be arraigned later Thursday in New Bedford District Court.

A motive for the slaying hasn’t been disclosed, and it’s not known if Antonetty hired a lawyer.

Prosecutors said Antonetty stabbed Camacho several times inside a residence on Tallman Street. New Bedford cops were called to the scene around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday for a report of a possible overdose, Quinn’s office said in a statement.

But when officers arrived, it was clear they were dealing with something far more sinister.

“When police and rescue personnel arrived on scene, they found the victim was suffering from multiple stab wounds,” the statement said, adding that Camacho was later pronounced dead at Saint Luke’s Hospital.

Further information about the slaying wasn’t immediately available.
