Man arrested after shot fired inside Maine Walmart, police say

An Augusta, Maine, man was charged with criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon after brandishing and firing a gun at another man inside a Walmart store.

Robert Potter, 31, was in a verbal confrontation with a male customer at 10 p.m. Monday night in Augusta, Maine, when he pulled out a firearm and pointed it at the other Walmart customer. The man managed to disarm Potter as he was firing the weapon. No one was injured, according to police.

The Augusta Police Department responded to the incident, reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses. Potter was transported to Maine General Medical Center and remains hospitalized at an undisclosed location for medical treatment. He has been charged with a Class C felony.

A female customer witnessed the altercation before running out to her vehicle. Deputy police chief Jared Mills says she “suffered a medical event while inside her vehicle” and passed away. Police are saying there is no evidence to suggest she was associated with the fight besides being a witness to it.
