Hopkinton police to anyone making a fake license plate: try harder

Hopkinton police have seen a lot.

Have they seen a “license plate” crafted out of part of a pizza box and some marker strokes?

Police posted this photo on their Facebook feed on Sunday after a traffic stop that happened at an unspecified time:

For comparison, below is a photo of a standard Massachusetts license plate. (Needless to say, most plates don’t come with the autographs or the vanity tag.)

As you can tell, the fake plate lacks a number of items.

Red type for the license plate number. The makeshift plate features what appears to be blue marker.

Blue type for the state name. The self-created plate appears to have a different shade of blue. (Or maybe it’s black? Or gold? You decide.)

The fake plate does not spell out “MASSACHUSETTS” across the top, settling for “MASS.”

The makeshift plate is missing the tagline that graces all standard license plates: “The Spirit of America.”

The tag on the nonconforming vehicle also does not have a valid registration sticker.

Last, but not least, the self-created plate does not include the two holes at the bottom for attaching the plate to your car.

The operator of the vehicle will be charged with operating an uninsured and unregistered vehicle, police said.
