One person dead in Roslindale after two overnight shootings 360 feet apart

A man shot another man at a house party in Roslindale early Saturday morning and then apparently killed himself a block away after police arrived at the house, according to Boston police officials.

The first shooting happened around 12:27 a.m. at a party inside 4410 Washington St., Boston police Commissioner William B. Evans said. A 28-year-old man apparently shot another man who was about 30 years old, hitting him twice. He was expected to survive, police said.

When police arrived on scene, they learned the name of the suspect and that he might be suicidal, a police spokesman said. While they were still in the apartment, Evans said, police heard a gunshot in the distance.

Officers found the 28-year-old man a short time later in a driveway in the area of 52 Metropolitan Ave., around the corner from the home where the party was held. He was dead of what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, Evans said.
