6-year-old boy dies after Westwood crash

A 6-year-old boy struck by a car Sunday afternoon in Westwood has died, the town’s public schools announced Tuesday.

Edward “Eddie” Thomson injured when a car struck him and his father in a crosswalk around 3 p.m. at Pond Street and Lakeshore Drive in Westwood.

“All of us . . . are tremendously saddened by this tragic loss,” Westwood superintendent Emily Parks said in a statement. “Eddie was a wonderful, loving friend and classmate and our community will miss him. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Thomson family during this difficult time.”

The statement did not identify the school Thomson attended. Counselors will be made available to support students and staff with their grief, the statement said.

Westwood police said the crash appeared accidental but remains under investigation.
