Two men died early Wednesday after a three-alarm fire ripped through a five-story building in the North End due to the careless disposal of smoking material, according to Boston fire officials.
Three residents were taken to Tufts Medical Center with injuries that are believed to be non-life-threatening.
An estimated $1.5 million worth of damage was left in its wake.
