Boston police recovered a loaded handgun during an arrest in East Boston on Sunday, officials said.
A detective on patrol near Bennington and Trident streets around 5 p.m. noticed a car with a bent license plate and determined that it belonged to suspects in an assault and battery, police said.
When the detective pulled the car over, the driver, Jamal Molina, 21, of Hyde Park, appeared nervous and seemed to reach under his seat, according to police. After Molina admitted to having four bags of marijuana stored in the center console and showed them to the detective, he continued to“move erratically and bang on the steering wheel,” police said. Concerned for his safety, the detectivecalled for backup and ordered the driver to step out of the car. He then found a loaded .40-caliber handgun under the driver’s seat, as well as a digital scale, police said. Police charged Molina with illegal gun possession, possession of a high capacity ammunition feeding device, and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.Abigail Feldman can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org
