Suspect in Everett armed robbery in custody after manhunt

An East Boston man who fled after crashing a van into a backyard swimming pool during a police chase Tuesday night was apprehended shortly after midnight, according to the State Police.

The suspect was taken into custody around 12:15 a.m. Wednesday in Revere, near the East Boston line, according to State Police spokesman David Procopio. He was being evaluated early Wednesday at CHA Everett Hospital, Procopio said.

The arrest came after an hours-long manhunt following an armed robbery in Everett, police said.

Police said the man, whose name and age were not made available, fled the robbery scene in a white van. Revere police located the vehicle and pursued it until the suspect drove the van into a backyard on Butler Street. The van came to a rest atop a covered in-ground swimming pool, Procopio said.

The suspect then left the crash scene on foot, prompting a manhunt that included Revere police, state troopers, and a State Police K-9 unit.

A Revere police officer was being examined for a possible knee injury suffered in the search, State Police said.
