Boston Police inspected the underside of a truck involved in a fatal pedestrian accident on Herald Street at Washington on Wednesday.

A woman was killed after being struck by a truck in the South End Wednesday afternoon, Boston police said.

The pedestrian was hit at the intersection of Herald Street and Washington Street around 2:20 p.m., Boston police spokeswoman Maisha Miraj said.

David Estrada, a Boston police spokesman, said Wednesday night that the victim was an adult woman, but said that he could not confirm her age.

“At this point, it’s an active and ongoing investigation,” he said.

Estrada said he did not immediately have any further information.
