■ APARTMENT FIRE A two-alarm fire damaged an apartment building in Framingham Tuesday morning. No one was injured, but some families might be displaced, the city’s fire chief said. When firefighters arrived at Lord Chesterfield Apartments at 10 Greenview St. at around 10 a.m., they found flames shooting from a third-floor bedroom window, Framingham Fire Chief Joe Hicks said. Firefighters opened up the roof in order to push the flames up into the air instead of across the building, he said. “They quickly attacked the fire and held it to one unit,” he said.
■ MURDER CHARGE A 20-year-old Lynn man was ordered held without bail Tuesday following his arraignment on a murder charge, the Suffolk district attorney’s office said in a statement. Jaquan Shepard is accused of the fatal shooting of Phillip Demings, 17, of Weymouth, on Bowdoin Street in Dorchester. Prosecutors allege that Shepard shot the victim multiple times on the afternoon of Dec. 19. Shepard was identified through surveillance camera images, witness statements, and other evidence, prosecutors said. He turned himself in to Boston police on Tuesday, three days after a warrant was issued for his arrest. He is due back in court on Feb. 8, prosecutors said.
■ MAN ASSAULTED A 56-year-old construction worker will head to court Wednesday to face charges of assaulting a co-worker who might have been intoxicated at a Boston job site in May, leaving the victim with a traumatic brain injury, according to prosecutors. Kevin Medeiros of Berkeley will be arraigned in Suffolk Superior Court on charges of aggravated assault and battery, witness intimidation, and tampering with evidence stemming from the alleged attack, the Suffolk district attorney’s office said in a statement. The skirmish occurred at a work site at Copley Place, a commercial hub downtown that’s home to a number of historic buildings. “On the date of the assault, Medeiros was working as the nighttime site supervisor at a Copley Place construction site when he and another employee — who was showing signs of intoxication — became involved in a verbal altercation,” the statement said. “Medeiros allegedly punched the victim in the face, causing him to fall backward and strike his head on concrete.”
■ CAR CRASH A man crashed a Toyota SUV into Benny’s Barber Shop in Marlborough Tuesday afternoon, shattering the front window, officials said. No one was injured. “There’s quite a bit of damage out there,” said Marlborough Police Sergeant John Graham. “The car went through the barber shop.” The shop is in a three-store strip mall at 554 Boston Post Road East, sandwiched between convenience store Capital Farms and Post Road Pizza. The driver was examined by EMS workers at the scene but refused medical treatment, said Marlborough Assistant Fire Chief Jeffrey Gogan. The owner of the barber shop, Benny, was the only person in the shop at the time and was in a back room when the crash occurred at 2:05 p.m. “It doesn’t look very good,” said David Greenhalgh, owner of The Plum Tomato, a pizza shop across the street. “The entire front of the store is just open now. It’s pretty ugly.” Officials are looking into the accident’s cause.
