Elderly man coaxed from home after barricading himself inside, making threats

Multiple law enforcement agencies transported a 76-year-old man from his home and seized six firearms after he attempted to barricade himself inside on Monday night.

Nearby homes were evacuated as the unidentified man barricaded himself in a bedroom in his Carver Street home and made violent threats toward himself and others, according to the Raynham Police Department. He threatened to kill any law enforcement officer who attempted to remove him from the home, officials said.

Police responded to the home at 5:17 p.m., and requested the help of the SWAT team. Taunton police and environmental police were nearby and assisted as well.

A Raynham police detective spoke with the man and convinced him to exit the home. He was then taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

Six firearms legally owned by another resident of the home were also seized from a safe as evidence.

The incident is under investigation by Raynham police, who say he is likely to face a number of charges. A date has not been set for his arraignment in Taunton District Court.
