Boston police said they arrested a 17-year-old boy who was allegedly carrying a loaded gun in his backpack Friday afternoon in Dorchester.

Officers approached the juvenile around 2:30 p.m. near Fenelon Playground by Erie and Merrill streets, police said in a statement.

They identified themselves and asked the suspect if he was carrying a gun, and he confirmed he had a loaded gun in his backpack, police said. The officers then recovered the gun and arrested the suspect.


The juvenile was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and carrying a loaded firearm on a public way, police said.
