The Hingham ferry service will reopen Monday after last week’s winter storm left it “structurally unsafe,” MBTA officials said in a statement.
The dock was closed to the public last week, and marine contractors evaluated possible damage both above and below the water line, the MBTA said. Officials announced Friday that the entire dock float system had been repaired.
“The entire dock will also be relocated 2 feet forward in order to avoid being located where the previously damaged piles have been cut off and partially removed,” the MBTA said.
Several more piles are expected to be fully installed by Sunday morning, and the work area will hopefully be cleared later that day, the statement said.
“The MBTA appreciates the patience of its ferry customers while the Hingham dock was evaluated and reconstructed for safe use by passengers,” the MBTA said.Elise Takahama can be reached at email@example.com. Follow her on Twitter @elisetakahama.
