Man burned in Hyannis house fire

A man suffered second- to third-degree burns in a house fire in Hyannis Saturday night and was flown by helicopter to a hospital for treatment, a fire official said.

Emergency crews responded to a report of a fire at 48 Bettys Pond Road around 5:40 p.m., Hyannis fire Lieutenant David Webb said.

When firefighters arrived, they discovered neighbors had helped remove an unidentified man from the multifamily home, he said.

The man was taken by ambulance to Barnstable Airport and was then taken by Medflight to a hospital, Webb said.

The hospital was not identified. The severity of his injuries was not known.

The fire caused an estimated $70,000 to $100,000 in damage, Webb said.

The fire started in the rear of the house and appears to be accidental but remains under investigation, Webb said.
