Snow is expected Wednesday morning. How much depends on where you are

The snow arrived early Wednesday morning while most of you were still fast asleep, and this type of storm is likely to foul up your morning commute.

The bulk of the snow will fall Wednesday between about 7 a.m. and 1 p.m., with a little accumulation before that and a little after. The flakes will be over before the evening commute, but the ride home Wednesday could still be slow because of residual snow and slush-filled roads.

Temperatures will be milder than other recent storms, so this snow will be heavier and wetter. This is especially true south of Boston. As you go north and west of Route 495, the snow will have a lighter texture, so it’ll be fairly easy to shovel.

The rain-snow line will creep up from Cape Cod to Plymouth. It wouldn’t surprise me if a few raindrops mixed in with the snow at Logan Airport and coastal Boston suburbs.

The fast-moving system means limited snowfall, between 1 and 4 inches, in the Boston area. However, if enough warm air arrives quickly enough, places along the coast south of the city could see very little snow.

The timing means school cancellations are likely, and several school districts in Massachusetts have already canceled school, especially those north and west of Boston.

These storms tend not to cancel the bigger airline flights, but some smaller, regional flights will be delayed or canceled.

As far as temperature goes, the air behind this storm is not very cold, and it will be quite mild by the weekend. Temperatures will increase from around freezing Thursday to the mid-30s on Friday. Expect a blend of clouds and sunshine for Sunday’s Patriots game, with temperatures between 45 and 50 for kickoff.
