Audit says troopers may have been paid for unworked shifts

Massachusetts State Police are investigating whether officers were paid for shifts they never worked, officials said Monday.

During an ongoing internal audit, officials discovered “payroll discrepancies” for officers assigned to patrol shifts designed to reduce accidents, state police said. The audit found evidence that some troopers did not show up for their shifts, yet were paid anyway.

State police said they will determine the scope of the discrepancies and work with the Attorney General’s office to decide what action to take.
