Driver killed while fleeing traffic stop in Quincy

A three-car crash in Quincy on Monday left one man dead and two women injured, officials said.

The driver who caused the crash sped away from a trooper who pulled him over on Quincy Shore Drive around 9 p.m., said State Police spokesman Dave Procopio. The driver then sideswiped one car and crashed into another before it hit the sea wall and rolled onto the beach, police said.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

Two women — the driver of one of the vehicles that was hit and a passenger who was ejected from the speeding car — were taken to Boston Medical Center for treatment. Both are expected to survive their injuries, police said.

Officials said the trooper did not chase after the driver who sped away but followed in the same direction. The trooper came upon the crash, near Caddy Memorial Park, a short time later.

The crash remains under investigation, police said.
