Boston police recover stolen vehicle and firearm in Dorchester during traffic stop

When Boston police pulled over a stolen rental car in Dorchester Thursday night they also found a gun that was stolen out of New Mexico.

It happened around 11:27 p.m. when officers patroling the area of Blue Hill Avenue and Harvard Street conducted a query on a gray Infiniti and learned it had been rented with fraudulent credit cards and reported stolen by the rental company, according to a release on

Police said the driver, identified as 21-year-old Kevin Achille of Dorchester, was “initially uncooperative with officers” and was arrested on a charge of receiving stolen property.


When the passenger, identified as Austin Waite, 21, of Dorchester, was ordered to get out of the vehicle, officers noticed that he was carrying a firearm, police said. When the officers asked him if he had a license to carry, he said he did not, according to police.

Police said the officers seized the loaded black SAR Arms 9mm firearm and later learned it had been reported stolen out of Albuquerque, N.M. in 2016. Waite was placed under arrest and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawfully carrying a loaded firearm, unlawful possession of a high capacity feeding device, and receiving stolen property.
