    Man in 80s dies after being hit by dump truck in Back Bay

    A man in his 80s who was hit by a dump truck while walking near a major Back Bay intersection late Thursday night has died from his injuries, Boston police said Friday.

    The name of the victim was not released by police.

    According to police, officers responded to the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Newbury Street around 10:20 p.m. where they found the man suffering from life-threatening injuries.


    He was rushed to Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

    The operator of the dump truck — which was hauling a trash compactor — did not stop at the scene, but was located and stopped by police “a short time later,’’ according to police.

    After the crash, police cordoned off the on-ramp to the Massachusetts Turnpike and closed both sides of Massachusetts Avenue at the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue to traffic while an on-scene investigation was conducted.

    No charges have been filed in the case.
