Fall River police are searching for a masked man who robbed a store at gunpoint and threatened the clerk’s terrified children, vowing to kill them if the worker did “anything stupid,” officials said Friday.
The harrowing ordeal began shortly before 7 p.m. Monday at Farm Market on Durfee Street when the suspect, wearing a hooded sweatshirt and ski mask that covered his neck, chin, and forehead, entered the store and asked for cigarettes, Fall River police said in a statement.
After the clerk retrieved the cigarettes, the man pulled out a silver pistol and demanded all the cash from the register, the release said. He then menaced the two small children.
“The male suspect noticed the clerk’s children (young boy and girl) in the store and threatened to kill them if the clerk did ‘anything stupid,’ ” the statement said. “The clerk handed the suspect cash from the register. While the [drawer] was opened, the suspect reached into the register for the remaining cash.”
Police said he left the store with a “moderate sum” of money and a box of cigarettes.
The suspect was described as a light-skinned black or Hispanic man of medium build, standing approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall. In addition to the sweatshirt and mask, he also wore light gray sweatpants and black sneakers that might have been Nike low-tops, police said.
